Admin Manual - Upgrades
From PikaDocs
[edit]
Overview
The following are instructions for upgrading an existing installation of Pika 3 to this new version. These instructions assume you have an existing Pika site, you are familiar with MySQL database and Apache webserver administration, and are using a UNIX-based server to host your Pika site. If you don't already have a Pika site running, please refer to the file 'install.txt' for instructions on installing a fresh copy of Pika. Assistance is available if you have trouble upgrading this software on your own! Simply contact us at support@pikasoftware.com.
- Notify users that the Pika system will be taken down for software upgrades. As a courtesy, try to notify them a week in advance, and then again within 24 hours of the upgrade.
- Download the new Pika 3 .ZIP file from pikasoftware.net.
- Unzip the downloaded file. It will contain a "www" directory, a "sql" directory, and the file you are now reading.
- Use the user accounts screen to verify that all staff are logged out of the system.
- Next, disable logins so no one accidentally tries to log in during the upgrade. Go to the system settings page, uncheck 'Logins', and click 'Save'.
- Find the directory where Pika is currently installed. Move this directory to a different location, but remember where you put it in case you want to undo the upgrade. One option is to rename the directory, for example renaming it from 'pika_main' to 'pika_main-Jan25-2004'. This way you can keep an archive of multiple, oldercopies of your Pika site.
- Move the contents of the "www" directory to a location where Pika was previously installed. Now your Pika site will be using the new version.
- Restore your Pika system settings by copying the file 'config/settings.php' from the old Pika directory to the new Pika directory.
- Restore any customizations by copying the contents of the 'custom' directory over the contents of the new Pika directory.
- Log into the upgraded Pika site and verify that everything is working correctly.
- Re-enable logins by opening the system settings screen, check 'Logins' and click 'Save'.
- Notify your staff that your upgraded Pika site is now ready to use!
